What is this elusive construct called creativity? In whose eyes do we measure it? Reflecting on this topic, I believe that creativity is essential to the change process. Words such as original, dynamic, and using one’s imagination may describe this concept. However, being creative goes beyond just these descriptors. The purpose of this paper is to specifically define my conceptualization of creative treatment.
The “C” in creative is most representative of the principle of client-centered therapy. The client’s interest, career, hobbies are used as material for treatment. Whether it is baseball, football, Barbie dolls, or occupational interests (e.g., fireman, train conductor, meteorologist), these topics can be used as a resource for material which will be interesting and relevant to the client.
