In the introductory article of this publication, “Cincinnati Insurance Initiative—Grassroots Advocacy,” Diane Games emphasizes that, in addition to grassroots advocacy, professional association advocacy at the state and national levels is also necessary for solving the reimbursement challenges facing our profession. This article will describe the collaborative efforts of the Ohio Speech- Language-Hearing Association’s Insurance Initiative, the National Insurance Advocacy Initiative, and ASHA. The insurance initiative that began in Cincinnati evolved into an Ohio Speech- Language-Hearing Association Initiative and, ultimately, a national initiative comprised of colleagues from other state associations. The collaboration among state associations was and continues to be key to furthering advocacy efforts across the country and creating an ASHA State-Based Reimbursement Network and Focused Initiative on Health Care Reimbursement.
