In order to educate and empower parents regarding their insurance benefits, the Insurance Advocacy Group met with several parent organizations to explain our concerns and enlist the help of these parents. These people are the most effected by the lack of and/or problems with insurance coverage for their children, and have the most ability to change it. At first, the group marketed two seminars. The targeted population was broad: support groups from numerous special populations and numerous practitioners in the Greater Cincinnati area. Two locations were targeted in order to be convenient geographically. In all, approximately 70 people attended. Many were parents, and a few represented service providers. The group was then asked to speak to the Association for Retarded Citizens, the Autism Society, an apraxia support group, and the Down Syndrome Association. These engagements provided a larger audience. All audiences were very interested in the material presented.
