The Specialty Board on Fluency Disorders wants to thank David Shapiro for his years of service on the Board. David provided key leadership in the development of the Specialty Examination on Fluency Disorders. The Board also recognizes the key contribution of Ed Conture, who for 3 years provided countless hours, wisdom, and guidance in the process of constructing and finalizing the examination. In addition, the current Board including Walt Manning, Tommie Robinson, Lee Reeves, and Diane Hill welcomes Catherine Montgomery who began a 3-year term in January 2003.
The inaugural cadre of Board Recognized Fluency Specialists has remained essentially intact. Two candidates have completed educational and clinical experience, submitted portfolios, and taken the Fluency Examination. Approximately 25 additional candidates are in the process of seeking Specialty Recognition in Fluency Disorders. There is a critical need for additional mentors to be recognized in order to meet the needs of candidates around the country.
