This year the Specialty Board on Fluency Disorders (SBFD) welcomed two new Board Recognized Specialists in Fluency Disorders. Kathy Scaler Scott, director of Fluency, Research and Clinical Programs at the Princeton Speech-Language and Learning Center in Princeton, NJ was mentored through this process by J. Scott Yaruss (a board-certified specialist). Kim Stallings, of Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, VA was mentored by Susan Sykes, (a board-certified specialist). We applaud Ms. Scaler Scott’s and Ms. Stallings’ efforts and dedication to demonstrating a high level of achievement in this area.
The board has developed new, more user friendly procedural guidelines for new applicants and mentors, as well as for those maintaining their BRS-FD (certification). The guidelines are available on line at www. stutteringspecialists.org.
