I met Catherine 10 years ago in 2000 through one of her brothers at a bible study one night. He said, “You’re studying speech pathology? You have to meet my amazing sister in New York City who created and runs the American Institute for Stuttering! She’s incredible!”
He was right. Catherine was a well known name in the field and beloved by many when I met her. Through my internship, I witnessed her skills as a master clinician. She drew people to her with her love, acceptance, and charm. One client recently said she cared for him was the way only a family member would. Catherine had a unique gift to make intimate connections with hundreds of people. Her clients were her children, and she invested in them all. I knew after interning with her, this is what I wanted to do with my life and I soon joined her at the American Institute for Stuttering. It was a dream come true.
